Maker Of The Month For June

Well it’s summer and after a long winter I find myself looking out the window to sunshine, yeh! Worrying though as if its June then we are half way through the year in what seems like a blink of an eye!

I remember planning the Maker Of The Month back in January and thinking that I couldn’t wait for June as our Maker Of The Month would be Cal Scott. Watching her work evolve over the last year has been a treat and a wonder. Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA Hons in Design & Applied Arts, Cal worked in various media including ceramics, graphic design and textiles. Inspired by a love of colour and pattern, combined with a long-held interest in printmaking, Cal taught herself to screenprint in 2015 and launched a range of paper and wood products under the name Sad Panda Printing.

Gradually Cal moved towards her 3d Art and in May 2017 she started making framed wooden dioramas as a few one-off pieces for a group exhibition in Perthshire. The response to them was so positive that she found herself developing them further and under the name Hooperhart, they have now become her main focus.

Cal’s work is influenced by numerous things like memories of cardboard dioramas she played with as a child,  working in theatre design on stage sets which led her down the path of creating these little contained worlds. The subject matter is inspired by storytelling, folklore, local flora and fauna, and a love of the Scottish coast. It is totally unique, just beautiful in it’s details, composition and colours and has such a child like fairytale and wonder in them that I could just sit and look at them all day (not so great when trying to work!).

So Ta Da….. drum roll and much expectation our Maker Of The Month for June is Cal Scott from HooperHart!

March Maker Of The Month @ Teasel & Tweed – Devenick Designs

Devenick Designs are a family business based in Banchory Devenick, run by Jenny Corrigan.

Noticing the shortage of fun, attractive, modern and affordable garden art work available in the market place, Jenny began to design art work for their own garden.

The first design was ‘The herons’ in an effort to deter or distract a local heron from visiting the family pond and feasting on their Coy Carp!
After much admiration of this functional art piece and many commissions later, Devenick Designs was born and high quality affordable garden sculptures was their concept.

All designs boast modern clean simple lines, resulting in eye catching and elegant sculptures. Bringing both an element of fun and interest to gardens and indoors alike. The latest addition, the ‘Butterfly’, can be purchased in two lengths, various colours and used both singularly as a statement both out doors or in pot plants or used to create a stunning feature in your garden of a fluttering butterfly meadow.

All of Devenick Designs art work are registered designs and are manufactured in Scotland. With new designs being developed all the time and a range of colours and finishes available you are sure to fine one on their pieces to treasure!
